3D Robotics is a renowned company in the drone market, which is an American company that produces and designs commercial aerial vehicles to make the world more easy and comfortable. They introduced consumer drone, ready – to- fly quadcoptors for aerial photography, videography and mapping. They uphold a big object which is “Help people see their world from above”.
A brief story of the company
3D Robotics established in 2009 by Chris Anderson and Jordi Munoz. Chris Anderson is CEO and Jordi Munoz is the President of 3D Robotics. They both met each other online through DIY drone community, which was started by Chris Anderson for aerial vehicle enthusiasts. Jordi Munoz was 19 years old college dropout from Mexico who had just arrived in the United States and was waiting for his green card. He spent his time by creating a functional drone of a video gaming remote control. After read out and saw design in the online, Anderson started to deal with Munoz.
Now, 3D Robotics headquarter in Berkeley and customer service in Tijuana. Almost 20 employees are working in the company. It is one of the founding members of dronecode.
Products of the company
IRIS+ Drone: It released in September 2014 and designed for the recreational drone market. It can capture aerial photos and videos by using the GoPro camera. It can fly 40 miles per hour and up to 3280 feet. It has some advanced technology, including Follow me, auto mission planning and live view.
X8 Quadcopter: The X8 quadcopter released in November 2014. It comes in 2 versions. One is X8+ which is for aerial photography and cinematography with gimbal and GoPro camera. Another one is X8-M which is basically used for mapping. The total package with this drone is SX260 camera and Pix4DMapper software.
AERO-M Fixed Wing UAV: It is used for mapping. To create exact georeferenced, it uses Canon S100 high resolution 12MP camera and image processing Pix4Dmapper Mosaic 3DR edition software. It can fly up to 40 minutes and capable of capturing photo an area up to 250 acres per flight.
Solo Drone: In May 2015 3D Robotics revealed Solo which is the world’s first smart drone. It’s specially designed to capture aerial photography and videography easy for the beginners and professionals. It allows you to film shots as an individual.
Site Scan: Site Scan comes in March 2016 with intuitive, powerful and open aerial analytics platform. 3D Robotics collaborates with some companies such as Sony and Autodesk to capture high resolution picture by Solo.
It is notable that 3D Robotics declared they will not produce their “legacy” models which include all above except the solo.
3D Robotics makes controllers for professional in different stage or in aerial photography, mapping, and personal fun or entertainment. They manufacture Pixhawk which is an advance autopilot system. It provides outstanding performance , flexibility for controlling any autonomous vehicle.
The dronecode is a non-profit organization where 3D Robotics along with Yuneec International are founding members and governed by the Linux Foundation. The main purpose of this organization is to use Linux for the users benefit with cheaper, better and reliable UAV software.
3D Robotics makes their fund for research, development and enhancement of the company which is collected from IT firms or rich person. Till April 2015, they raise their fund to USD50 million.
